Terms of Service

Welcome to Crayp. These Terms govern your use of the Crayp iOS app and the website at crayp.com (together, the Service), provided by Bytea, Ltd., a Delaware corporation ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use Crayp. If you're under 18, by using Crayp you confirm a parent or legal guardian has consented on your behalf.
  • You must have a valid US or Canadian phone number you control.
  • You must not be barred from receiving the Service under applicable law, and you must not have been previously removed from Crayp for a Terms violation.

2. Your account

One account per phone number. Keep your phone number under your control — anyone who can receive your SMS can sign in. If you lose access, contact hi@crayp.com.

You're responsible for everything that happens on your account, including content you create or send (display name, avatar, group names, reports you submit).

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Crayp to:

  • Harass, threaten, intimidate, dox, or stalk anyone.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.
  • Post or share hateful, sexually explicit, violent, or unlawful content, including in your display name, avatar, group names, or reports.
  • Solicit minors or anyone for sexual or commercial purposes.
  • Send spam, scrape the Service, or attempt to circumvent rate limits.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code beyond what's allowed by law.
  • Interfere with the Service's operation, including by introducing malware, attempting unauthorized access, or stress-testing without our written permission.
  • Use Crayp for any commercial purpose without our prior written consent.

Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Reports submitted via the in-app Report flow are reviewed promptly. Confirmed violations result in account suspension or permanent removal at our sole discretion. You can block any user at any time from their profile drawer; blocked users cannot find you, send you requests, or share crews with you.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of any content you create on Crayp (your display name, avatar, group names, session-share cards, etc.). You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, transmit, and process that content solely as needed to provide the Service to you and your friends. This license ends when you delete the content or your account.

You're responsible for ensuring you have the rights to anything you upload (e.g., your avatar image).

5. Push notifications

With your permission, we deliver push notifications for session invites, friend requests, friend acceptances, emergency exits during a locked session, and streak saves. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings → Crayp.

6. Family Controls / Screen Time

During a locked session, Crayp uses Apple's Family Controls and ManagedSettings frameworks to shield other apps on your device until your crew unlocks together or you use the in-app Emergency Exit. You authorize this on first session via the system permission dialog. The shield is applied and removed entirely on your device — we never receive a list of which apps are installed, used, or shielded.

7. Termination

By you: delete your account from the profile drawer at any time. Deletion is immediate and permanent (see our Privacy Policy for what gets removed).

By us: we may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, create risk for other users, or for legal reasons. Where reasonable, we'll notify you. If we terminate without cause we'll let you export your data first.

8. Service changes

We're a small team and the product is evolving. We may add, change, or remove features. If we discontinue the Service materially we'll give you at least 30 days notice and the chance to export your data.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do our best to keep it running but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific feature (push delivery, session locking, friend matching) will work exactly as described at every moment. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Crayp is not a substitute for clinical care, therapy, or any safety-critical service. Don't rely on Crayp's lock to prevent emergency calls — iOS always allows emergency calls and critical alerts to bypass the shield.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bytea, Ltd. and its officers, employees, and contractors are not liable to you for any damages arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service — including any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, and any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or use.

If a court refuses to enforce that disclaimer in your jurisdiction, our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to USD $100. Crayp is a free service; you don't pay us, and we don't pay you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware, and you consent to that jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms prevents either of us from seeking injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

13. Changes to these Terms

If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
